I was pleasantly surprised when the editors of Biomaterials Science, the journal in which my first paper appeared, invited me to submit cover art to accompany my manuscript. Not being a very accomplished artist, I thresholded four of my most interesting images of motor neurons and recolored them to match a what I thought was a classic Warhol; but what I now know is just a piece of fan art. Fortuitously, our building announced an art contest several days after I submitted so decided to double dip. Lo and behold, 6 months later I was selected as one of the winner and my cover will be displayed somewhere in the building.
